Martin Luther - the name is inseparably connected with Sachsen-Anhalt.
Sachsen-Anhalt was Luther's home and is the originating country of the reformation. Here Martin Luther was born, here he lived, here the great reformer died. From here the reformation went around the whole world and to this day affects our lives, our customs, even our education system and the politics, whether we belong to the catholic faith, to the protestant faith or no faith at all.
In Sachsen-Anhalt we will take you on a journey in a time in which the Catholic Church seemingly irrevocably governs spiritual life, both in this world as well as in the world beyond. Humans pay a high price for salvation from the agonies of purgatory during this time. And in a time, in which one theologian scrutinizes this system and wants to reform and therefore causes the split of the church as well as serious social unrest.
Whether in Lutherstadt Wittenberg and the Lutherstadt Eisleben as well as Mansfeld-Lutherstadt, on the Luther Trial or with numerous events regarding Martin Luther and the Luther Decade – in hardly any other state is the history of reformation as alive as in Sachsen-Anhalt. The Luther Memorial Sites in Luther Cities Wittenberg and Eisleben were not declared in vain by UNESCO as World Heritage of Humanity.
