Whether on narrow paths through the Harz Mountains, cycling along the Elbe or paddling between vineyards on the Saale and Unstrut rivers - Saxony-Anhalt invites you to experience nature with all your senses. National parks, biosphere reserves and nature parks preserve special landscapes that can be explored on foot, by bike or from the water.

Hiking
Saxony-Anhalt is a land for hiking. In the Harz Mountains, the trail leads up to the Brocken or along narrow paths through forests and rocks. Along the Elbe, riverside forests and dykes accompany the route. There are monasteries, vineyards and villages along the way - places to take a break and enjoy the views.

Cycling
5,000 kilometers of cycle paths connect landscapes and places.
The Elbe Cycle Path leads past floodplains and cathedral towers. The Saale Cycle Route winds its way through vineyards and world heritage sites. The European Cycle Route R1 links Harz towns, Elbe meadows and Luther sites.

On & in the Water
You can canoe or paddle along the Saale and Unstrut rivers past castles and vineyards. Along the way, there are landing stages, places to stop for refreshments and places on the banks to take a break. Passenger boats connect the Saale, Elbe, Arendsee and Geiseltalsee. At lakes such as Goitzsche or Bergwitzsee, beach areas, jetties and quiet bays offer opportunities for swimming and stand-up paddling.

In Nature
National parks, biosphere reserves and nature parks preserve the country's most valuable landscapes.
From the wild Harz Mountains to the floodplains of the Middle Elbe and the karst landscape in the southern Harz Mountains, the Green Belt combines nature with history. These areas can be discovered on foot along nature trails, accompanied by rangers or in nature experience centers.

Active in New Ways
If you are looking for variety, you will find it riding through wide landscapes from the Altmark Trail to the Drömling Ride. You can climb and train on rocks in the Harz Mountains or in gyms from Dessau to Magdeburg. Yoga by the lake or skating on smooth lakeside paths provide exercise with a different rhythm.
