Drei Annen Hohne station with Harz narrow-gauge railroad

Saxony-Anhalt is located in the center of Germany, surrounded by Lower Saxony, Brandenburg, Saxony and Thuringia, and can be reached by many routes. Good connections ensure short distances and flexible travel options.

By train

Saxony-Anhalt is integrated into the Deutsche Bahn ICE network. The cities of Halle (Saale) and Magdeburg act as hubs with direct connections to Berlin, Hamburg, Munich, Frankfurt am Main and Cologne. Dessau, Wittenberg and Naumburg are also easy to reach by long-distance train. Regional train connections open up smaller towns and also make excursion destinations off the main routes accessible. Deutsche Bahn and the INSA Saxony-Anhalt app are available for travel planning. INSA is the central timetable information service for the state of Saxony-Anhalt and provides information on trains, buses and streetcars - including real-time data and connection options.

By car

Motorways connect Saxony-Anhalt directly with the surrounding federal states. The A2 leads from Berlin to the Ruhr region and crosses the state, the A9 links Berlin with Munich and the A14 connects Magdeburg with Dresden. The network is supplemented by federal highways such as the B6n, B71 and B80. Regions such as the Harz Mountains, Saale-Unstrut and the Middle Elbe can be reached quickly.

By plane

Leipzig/Halle International Airport (LEJ) is located just a few kilometers from Halle and offers numerous direct connections. Berlin-Brandenburg Airport (BER) can be reached in around 90 minutes from Magdeburg and considerably expands the choice of international destinations.

Long-distance buses

complement the travel options and connect Saxony-Anhalt with many German and European cities. Stops can be found in Magdeburg, Halle, Dessau and other cities. The bus stops are usually centrally located at train stations or in the immediate vicinity of the city center, which makes it easier to change to other means of transport.
