Day 1: Lutherstadt Wittenberg

In the morning:

City walk through the historic old town of Wittenberg

  • Wittenberg's castle church, Luther House with Augusteum and Melanchthon House:
  • Start your discovery tour through the old town of Lutherstadt Wittenberg on your own with an audio guide, available from the Tourist Information Office. The audio guide provides interesting information about all the sights.
  • At the door of the castle church in Wittenberg, Martin Luther posted his 95 theses in 1517. Today, the graves of Luther and Melanchthon can be visited inside the church.
  • In the Wittenberg Cranach Houses the Cranach Foundation exhibits the rich work of the famous family of painters in a historic setting

Lunch:

In the afternoon:

  • UNESCO World Heritage Site Melanchthon HouseMelanchthonhaus is considered one of the most beautiful town houses in Wittenberg. On a tour, you can explore the life and everyday world of Martin Luther's faithful companion.
  • Special exhibition "Literally Luther" in the Augusteum (at the UNESCO World Heritage Site Lutherhaus) NOTE: The Luther House will remain closed until the end of 2026 due to renovation work.

Day 2: Dessau-Roßlau

In the morning:

  • Visit the Master House Estatewhere Walter Gropius, Lyonel Feininger, Wassily Kandinsky, Paul Klee and many more once lived with their families.
  • Kurt Weill Center in the Feininger Master House: Kurt Weill was born in Dessau in 1900 and is considered one of the most famous musicians. There is a music box with the September Song as a souvenir.
  • Visit to the historic Bauhaus buildingBuilt in 1926, the university building by Walter Gropius is an icon of modernism and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1996. One-hour guided tours of the building take place daily at 11:00 and 14:00.

Afternoon:

  • Visit to the Bauhaus Museum: In the new Bauhaus Museum Dessau, you can marvel at the second largest Bauhaus collection in the world. The Bauhaus Museum Dessau has a collection of around 49,000 objects - including furniture, lighting, textiles, ceramics and teaching materials.

100 Years of Bauhaus Dessau

100 years ago, the Bauhaus moved from Weimar to Dessau: from September 2025 to December 2026, the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation will be celebrating the big anniversary under the motto "An die Substanz".

Day 3: Dessau-Wörlitz Garden Kingdom in the UNESCO Middle Elbe Biosphere Reserve

In the morning:

  • Anhalt Picture Gallery at Georgium Palace in Dessau: The Anhalt Picture Gallery is the art museum in the Garden Kingdom of Dessau-Wörlitz. Its holdings of paintings, drawings and prints make it the most important collection of Old Masters in Saxony-Anhalt.
  • Auenhaus Information Center in the UNESCO World Heritage Middle Elbe Biosphere Reserve: The permanent exhibition offers visitors the opportunity to better understand the special features of the protected area, its history and its tasks by means of replicas and models. For example, visitors can take a look inside an elaborately designed beaver lodge, the home of the Elbe beaver, probably the best-known inhabitant of the Middle Elbe.

At lunchtime:

  • Lunch at Ziegler's restaurant right next to Wörlitz Park

Afternoon:

  • Visit House of the Princess in Wörlitz: The Princess's House, also known as the "Grey House" due to its color scheme, served Princess Louise von Anhalt-Dessau as a private retreat from 1790 onwards when she was in Wörlitz. Today, the interior houses an exhibition center.
